Objective of Free Cycle Scheme

The objective of the free cycle scheme is to provide bicycles to the poor and working class citizens of the country for short distance commuting. Workers have to walk long distances to migrate. Their financial condition is not so good that they can buy a motorcycle or any other vehicle. Therefore, the Government of India has decided to provide financial assistance to these citizens to purchase bicycles.

Bicycle scheme information

MNREGA is a scheme run under the Free Cycle Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). Under which free bicycles will be given to poor laborers in rural areas. The benefits of this scheme will be given to all those laborers who work as labourers. In the first phase of the scheme, around 4 lakh workers will be provided with free bicycles to improve mobility and livelihood of workers. The scheme will be implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India, under which workers will be given a grant of approximately ₹3000 to ₹4000 for the purchase of a bicycle. So that it will be easy for the workers to reach the workplace and perform their various tasks.

Eligibility to Apply

• For free cycle scheme, the applicant must have the following qualifications-
• Applicant should be above 18 years of age.
• The applicant must have a labor card.
• Labor card should be at least 90 days old.
• Application can also be made through NREGA Job Card.
• Applicant should not be an income tax payer.
• Only those who are working in any construction for last 6 months can apply under this scheme.
