What is ITR Verification?

Generally e-verification of ITR file is very necessary after filing ITR. With e-verification of ITR you confirm that you have filed ITR. If you do not do e-verification after filing ITR, your ITIR file will not be valid.

Benefits of ITR Verification

If you do e-verification, the income tax department verifies your ITR file and refunds you if any tax has been overpaid. But if you don't do e-verification then refund is far away, even if ITR has been filed it will not be considered valid and also you will have to pay fine.

Generally time is given for e-verification within 30 days after filing of ITR.

If e-verification is not done?

If e-verification is not done, you may suffer a lot of losses like even if you have filed ITR, it will not be considered valid, i.e. the government will think that you have not filed ITR. There will be no refund and if you do not e-verify within 30 days after filing ITR, you may have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000.

But if you are unable to do e-verification for any reason, then you request a waiver from the income tax department showing a valid reason and get a waiver from the income tax department, then you are given a chance for e-verification again.

How to do ITR e-verification?

• For ITR e-verification first you have to login to Incometax portal.
• Here you will see an option called E-File on the main menu, click on it.
• Then click on the option of Income Tax Returns.
• Now click on the option called e-verify return.
• Now you will see your ITI file information, here you have to click on the button called e-verify.
• Here you will find many options to do e-verify, the easiest way is to verify by linking number with aadhaar card then select that option.
• Then click on Continue button.
• Now click on generate aadhaar otp then link otp with aadhaar card will come, after entering otp your e-verification will be done successfully.
