The NDA government, which has come to power for the third time under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made a big announcement. The Modi government's Union Cabinet has approved provision of 50 percent of basic pay as pension for government employees under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). It means that 50 percent of the last basic pay of the government employee will be given as pension subject to certain conditions. Let us tell you that 50% of the assured pension amount will be the average of the basic pay of the 12 months preceding the annualisation.

At the same time, it is proposed to give a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to employees who have worked for 10 years. As far as family pension is concerned, there is a provision of up to 60% of the last pay of the deceased government employee. Let's know about this new scheme in detail.

Features of the new scheme

In this scheme, an employee will get a pension equal to 50 percent of the last year's average salary after 25 years of service. The government will contribute 18.5 percent to the UPS and provisions have also been made for family pension, guaranteed minimum pension and lump sum payment after retirement. The scheme is expected to benefit 30 lakh central employees and a total of 90 lakh employees if state governments implement UPS.

Also gift on NPS

The government contributes 14 percent to the National Pension Scheme i.e. NPS, which has been increased to 18 percent. Along with this, employees will have the option to choose UPS from NPS only once.

-Employee contribution will be included in both NPS and UPS. Government employees will not have to make any additional contribution to UPS. In this only the contribution of the government is being increased. UPS will be implemented from the next financial year i.e. April 1, 2025.

Let us tell you that as NPS became an election issue for government employees, the Congress and other opposition parties had promised to scrap the scheme and implement the old scheme during the last few elections.
